White Fillings at Sunset Dental & Orthodontics | Dentist 89014

Fillings are used to restore a tooth that as been damaged by decay, also known as a cavity. A filling completes your beautiful smile and restores a tooth’s normal function and shape.

When you have a filling done, our 89014 dentist will give you a painkiller so that the area around the tooth is numb. Our dentist will remove the decayed tooth material, clean the area and then fill the cavity area. The filling will close off the area where bacteria try to enter the tooth and prevent more decay.

There are several type of fillings available: gold, porcelain (inlays or onlays), composite resin (tooth-colored fillings), and an amalgam (mercury, silver, copper).

Your dentist will work you to decide which type of filling is best for you. People usually get composite fillings because they can be made to blend in with the natural appearance of your teeth.

Our dentist will mix the composite ingredients, which are placed directly into the cavity. Our dentist 89014 will use a special light to harden the filling, and then polish the filling; it’s so lifelike, most people won’t notice that you have a filling.

Composites also support the remaining tooth structure, which helps to prevent breakage and insulates the tooth.

Gold fillings have a long lifetime, more than 20 years, and are probably the best permanent material for a filling. However, because they do not match your teeth, gold fillings are a better choice for back teeth instead of the front. Because these fillings are gold, they are the most expensive choice.

Amalgam fillings are relatively inexpensive and last for a long time, but because of their darker appearance, they are normally not used in the front, but rather on back teeth.

Porcelain filling, also known as inlays or onlays, and are created in a lab and later bonded to the tooth. Porcelain can be matched to the normal color of the tooth, and usually covers most of the tooth.

You can preserve your teeth, dental health and smile with a professional filling. Don’t ignore cavities; they don’t go away on their own. To treat yours, please call 702-550-1147 to make an appointment today.
